I was chatting to a good friend of mine, Eva Rankin, recently and we were talking about the challenges that come up when you run your own business and I mentioned my previous blog post “What if it doesn’t work?”. I asked Eva what she does to keep herself motivated and inspired to keep moving forward, one foot in front of the other.
Eva shared with me a great technique and I felt I had to share it with you in today’s blog post, simply because I think it’s brilliant. I remember doing something like this as part of my NLP practitioner course 8 years ago but it’s always great to get another take on a technique.
Now, a word of warning, this technique does require you to go to a quiet place (both physically and within) so you will need to give it some time (I know how busy you are but trust me, it’s good!). She recommended you go into a quiet space and take a few deep breaths. You imagine a gold circle around you and as you take a breath, visualize each breath infused with light and love. Take a few deep breaths and ask for your future self to call upon you. You then have a chat with your future self and ask for any clarity you need right now. And that’s it…simple at that!
Now you might be thinking “What???”. I know this might sound a little hooky and out there but I promise you it works. Why does it work? Because it gets you connected to your big and great WHY. That is a powerful source of energy to plug into because it makes your fears and anxieties so much smaller in comparison. I also heard a great quote recently which runs a long a similar theme:
“Ask yourself this daily question: How would the person I’d like to be, do the things I’m about to do?”
When you are tired and afraid and wondering what on earth you are doing – if every step feels like a trudge rather than a skip -take heart and think about your big picture. Make your mission and vision bigger than your fear and let the excitement of your mission bubble inside you until you feel like you’re about to burst and you have the stupidest grin on your face! J
