OK, so here’s a blog post I feel compelled to write because this is something that has tripped me up SO many times in my life and I am thinking you can perhaps relate also? I am talking about the Deadly Comparison Curse!
So, with the advent of all this glorious technology and social media, we are bombarded with so many messages about what people are doing. This is fantastic. We’re connecting with people we probably would never get to meet because of our location and our commitments. Last week, I had three amazing calls with women I may never have met in day to day life. One is in Wales, one is in England and the other in Thailand. In our normal day to day life, our paths may never have crossed. But last week, they did. And it was such a gift.
There’s a darker side to this however. With this bombardment of messages, we get to see people having great success and it makes us question our success, our progress and our lives. I know we all have control over what we allow to affect us but I don’t think there’s one single person out there who doesn’t fall prey to the Comparison Curse. The feeling that everyone else has it sorted, that we’re the only ones who can’t get our shit together and we’re somehow getting left behind.
If you’ve ever felt like this, you’re not alone hon. You are so not alone.
This has tripped me up and continues to trip me up. I think it’s a lesson you keep learning until you ‘get’ it. What do I think the lesson is? I think the lesson is this. We each have our own journey in life. We are here for a unique purpose and gift. There is a natural flow to how things will happen in life through a divine higher power that we cannot possibly understand. So everything that happens to us happens at exactly the right time and any earlier or later would means the natural order gets thrown out. We also cannot possibly ever know what goes on in someone’s life, their journey and their lessons.
If you’ve ever found yourself comparing yourself to others and finding yourself lacking, it’s time to put the spotlight firmly back on YOU! The truth is the only person you need to compare yourself with is who you were yesterday. In my Quick Fire Strategy Sessions, I help my clients create great clarity about what they should and should not focus on – perhaps this is what you need right now? You can book your session here.
When we compare ourselves to others and when we see them reaching a level of success and you wonder “why not me?”, I believe we are second guessing divine intelligence. We are questioning the delays, the denials and the frustrations and perhaps instead of asking “why not me”, ask “what am I learning right now?” I’m learning that there is so much more to me than just information. There is so much more to me than just strategy. There is so much more to me than simple implementation. I am learning there is just so much more. And instead of comparing myself to others and finding myself lacking, I am learning to enjoy the unveiling of the lesson and the divine plan. So what are you discovering? What are you learning? And are you enjoying the journey or hating every minute? We do have a choice.
