Last week, my parents were visiting and it was with a heavy heart that I was driving them back to the airport.

On the way there, we were chatting about sales.

And my dad (who is one of the smartest, kindest and most awesome person ever – along with my mum!), said ‘I hate selling‘.

Being the nosy one that I am, I asked why.

And he replied ‘It makes me feel small in front of the other person, because I am asking them for money

So interesting.

I bet you’ve felt like that at times too.

I know I have.

So we chatted a bit more and I asked if he felt like that at M&S (where he gets all hs shirts from!)

When he buys a shirt and the person at the cash register asks for money, does the request for money make that person appear sales-y, needy?

And he replied ‘of course not!

So why should someone in business feel icky about asking for the money?

After all, it’s a value exchange!

They’re not just giving you their money for no good reason.

They’re getting something back!

My dad HAD to concede I was right!!!

So what does that have to do with you?

Is this mindset holding you back? 

When you offer something of massive value, you cannot let this mindset hold you back.

Remember, sales is not something you DO to someone, it’s something you do FOR them.

If it’s not for them, that’s cool. You move on to the next person,

I love this little mantra my mentor told me years ago….’some will, some won’t, so what!’

It helps to take the sting out of the ‘no’!
